THE AFTERLIFE
Throughout the years humankind has wondered what happens after we die. Folklore and religions have postulated about an Afterlife. Historically, cultures from all over the globe have held belief in some form of the other world. It has many names, The Afterlife, Heaven, Nirvana, the Spirit World, to name a few. It is interesting that before modern day communication and travel, these geographically wide-spread cultures all came to similar conclusions. With this belief there is typically an associated belief in some form of higher intelligence source that many refer to as “God”. The word “God” has so many meanings to so many different people, with sometimes negative connotations, that it is often replaced with other terms such as The Divine, The Source, Universal Power, The Great Spirit, Universal Collective Conscious, Love. Married to a belief in the afterlife, is the theory that consciousness exists outside of, or without, an earthly body.
Unfortunately, at some point along the way, people in the Western World decided that Science does not support the possibility of an Afterlife or God, or survival of consciousness. Someone decided that since there isn’t tangible evidence, scientifically tested, that it cannot be conceivable. Perhaps it was mainly based on the Biblical story of creation versus scientific evidence of evolution over billions of years, and therefore, they have thrown the baby out with the bath water. The physical and mechanical aspects of the world today overwhelmingly overshadow the spiritual, the mystical, the magical and the metaphysical aspects that so many of us are craving. We are starved and longing to return to our authentic selves. Even those who have not yet recognized it.
One needs only conduct a small amount of research into the Afterlife to realize that there does exist a tremendous amount of scientific research and a preponderance of the evidence in support of an Afterlife. The scientific community is also becoming more and more open to this type of research, for a true scientist seeks the truth.
Unfortunately, the amount of time people have been documenting the evidence of another world is extremely small compared to the overall timeline of human beings.
Ever since my daughter crossed through the veil to the other side I have been seeking answers. This website is a collection of some of what I have discovered on my journey. It is by no means all encompassing. If you know a source that is not listed, please contact us and let us know.
Let’s explore some of the evidence of an Afterlife:
NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES (NDE)
The term “near-death experience” (NDE) was coined in 1975 in the book Life After Life by Raymond Moody, MD. A Near Death Experience (NDE) occurs when someone is clinically dead for a period of time but is revived back to life. The person typically experiences leaving their physical body and going to another place where they are met by spiritual beings and/or friends and family that have previously crossed to the other side. People who have had NDE’s report similar events which may or may not include traveling through a tunnel, seeing a bright (but not blinding) light, experiencing an intense sense of love and peace and a feeling of being “home”, having conversations (typically telepathically) with those on the other side, and experiencing a non-judgmental life review for the purpose of learning and growing. Some are offered a choice to stay in the afterlife or to return to their earthly life. They describe their experiences as more REAL than their earth life.
Sceptics have argued that NDE’s are a normal part of the body dying where the brain enters a dream-like hallucinating state as it is deprived of oxygen, or because the person is medicated. However, there is evidence to refute these claims. Some of the evidence includes the following:
-People who have had NDE’s report similar experiences.
-When people first leave their bodies, they often see and hear things that are happening around their body even though they are unconscious. People have reported seeing what doctors and nurses are doing and hearing what was said, which was later validated. People have also reported traveling away from their body and seeing and hearing what was happening at locations away from their body. Later, people validated what they reported.
-During their NDE, People sometime report seeing people on the other side whom they did not know had died. This is known as Peak in Darien.
-Blind people who experience NDE can “see” during their NDE.
-People who have had NDE’s are typically deeply and profoundly changed by the experience. Having experienced this interaction with the spirit world, they become more compassionate, loving and understanding. They typically do not fear death, and often long to return home.
-Some people who have NDE’s are healed from illnesses and afflictions.
-Some NDE experiencers return with increased intuition, psychic, mediumship or healing abilities.
A tremendous amount of information is available to learn about NDE’s. One main source is the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS). Use the link below to download and read their publication, Near-Death Experiences: Key Facts.
SHARED DEATH EXPERIENCES (SDE)
Shared Death Experiences (SDE) are experiences when someone other than the person who is dying shares the dying experience. Shared Death Experiences are generally had by people who are close to the dying person, either physically or emotionally. The experience can range from brief feelings of total love and peace, to in-depth journeys of going out-of-body with the dying person and experiencing similar phenomenon as an NDE.
Shared-death experiences (SDE) have been documented by the Society for Psychical Research in London since the late 1800s. Peter Fenwick, MD, and Elizabeth Fenwick, RN, who research end-of-life phenomena, have collected hundreds of shared-death experiences in the United Kingdom and in Northern Europe. Dr. Raymond Moody formally coined the term “shared-death experience” in his 2009 book, Glimpses of Eternity.
People who have had SDE’s consider themselves profoundly lucky to have shared such a magical moment. It is so impactful, that methods have been developed to induce shared crossing experiences when a loved one is known to be dying.
William Peters, M.A., M.Ed., is the Founder of the Shared Crossing Project whose mission is to raise awareness and educate people about the profound and healing experiences that are possible for the dying and their loved ones.
As the Director of the Shared Crossing Research Initiative (SCRI), William and his team collect and study extraordinary end-of-life experiences (shared crossings) and are recognized as the world’s leading authority on the shared-death experience. He has developed methods to facilitate these shared crossings and to assist experiencers in meaningfully integrating their experiences.

Death Bed Visions (DBV) Deathbed Visits and Other Phenomena
Deathbed Visions and Deathbed Visits are very common when someone is dying. It can occur at the time of death, and throughout the weeks before death. People who are in the dying process may have visits from their friends and family who have crossed to the other side and from other spiritual beings. Research on DBV provides strong evidence that no one dies alone. Someone, often many people, or even sometimes animals such as former pets, will come to help you cross over and to take you home.
Other phenomenon includes dying people knowing that they are preparing for a trip. Dying people often talk to people that cannot be seen by others, or they reach up as if reaching for someone or something.
People who work in Hospice usually have myriads of stories on their experiences with DBV. One well-known Hospice physician is Dr. Christopher Kerr. His TED talk video is a must watch! Also highly recommended is the talk by Hospice Nurse Becky Hawkins.

Spiritually Transformative Experience (STE)
The term Spiritually Transformative Experience (STE) is used for a wide range of spiritual experiences including such things as hearing a voice tell you not to get on the plane only to find out later that the plane you didn’t get on crashed. Or having a Kundalini Awakening, or an out-of-body experience.
The American Center for the Integration of Spiritually Transformative Experiences (ACISTE, like “assist”) defines STE as “An experience is spiritually transformative when it causes people to perceive themselves and the world profoundly differently: by expanding the individual’s identity, augmenting their sensitivities, and thereby altering their values, priorities and appreciation of the purpose of life.”
Astral Projection and Out of Body Experiences (OBE)
Many people who have experienced an NDE have an out-of-body experience (OBE) where their consciousness leaves their body. Some people have had out-of-body experiences without being clinically dead or near death. Sometimes these are spontaneous but often they can be deliberate. These experiences are extremely real, you are awake and aware, your consciousness is in a different location from your body. Sometimes you sense yourself leaving your body and can travel around your home in the earth realm. Sometimes you find yourself in another realm, or dimension. Most often OBE-ers travel to the Astral realm which is a dimension very similar to the earth realm and where most people go after their time on earth. There are people who often deliberately try to astral project (travel to the astral) because why wouldn’t you want to? There are those who astral project and spend time with their departed loved ones in the Astral plane. Typically, they find them healthy and happy and living normal lives. There are classes and courses that teach people how to astral project, but for most people it takes a lot of practice and discipline. One of the hardest parts is to overcome the urge to pop back into your body as soon as you feel yourself moving away from it. Usually when you astral project, you have an etheric or astral body and those in the Astral can see you and communicate with you.
People who astral project sometimes meet people in the astral, take note of their names and where they are from and other information about their lives on earth. When they are back in body, they look them up and find the data they were given to be accurate.
Some people have had experiences traveling to higher dimensional planes. Travel to the higher dimensional planes is described as having a feeling of love and peace similar to that described in NDE’s.

Remote Viewing
A scientifically proven phenomena that supports the theory that consciousness exists outside of the body is “remote viewing”. Remote viewing is when someone can be physically located in one place and tune into and see in their mind (third eye) a physical location somewhere else. The remote viewer can describe in detail, and often sketch or draw, the object or area that they are remote viewing. Remote viewing is a psychic phenomenon with a very interesting history. In the 1930’s Dr. Rhine performed some of the first psychic experiments and coined the term “extra sensory perception” (ESP). In the 1960’s and 1970’s ESP became very popular. So popular, that the US Government (and other governments) began experiments. Of course, the government wouldn’t officially use the term psychic, so they coined the phrase “remote viewing”.
International Remote Viewing Association (IRVA) defines remote viewing as:
Remote Viewing is a novel perceptual discipline for gaining information not available to the ordinary physical senses. Used extensively by so-called “psychic spies” during the Cold War for classified military projects, it has a long history both as an intelligence gathering tool and as the subject of research and applications in the civilian world.
The CIA, DIA and US Army recently declassified much of their research and projects on remote viewing. There is a tremendous amount of data available to the public. (Some of which can be found at the links in our e-book.)
Remote viewing is a subset of Clairvoyance since remote viewing is typically done in the present time and in the physical world. Clairvoyance also includes seeing events and people at different times in the past or future, such as a psychic detective who “sees” a murder that has already occurred. Or a psychic who “saw” a plane crash into the twin towers before it happened. Mediums also use clairvoyance to “see” spirit communicators who are in the spirit world (dead people).
Remote viewing supports the notion that everything is connected. It proves that consciousness exists outside of the physical body.
Evidence of Reincarnation
The theory of reincarnation is based on the premise that we are spiritual beings that incarnate into a body for the experiences of a lifetime. We exist before our incarnation, and we exist after our bodily death. The soul may choose to reincarnate after death into another body for another lifetime on earth (or other galaxy).
Many cultures around the world believe in reincarnation. The major Eastern religions, including Hinduism and Buddhism, strongly believe in reincarnation. It is prominent in India, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Lebanon, Thailand, Myanmar, West Africa, and among the tribal groups of northwest North America. Ancient Greek philosophers such as Pythagoras, Socrates and Plato, Ancient Egyptians, Mayans, Celtic Druids and Vikings also believed in reincarnation.
Cases of reincarnation have been studied for decades. The evidence is impossible to explain away, even for the most hardcore cynics.
The research on reincarnation is abundant thanks mostly to Ian Stevenson and Jim Tucker at the University of Virginia, DOPS.
Past Life Regression through Hypnosis
Past life regression is a technique that uses hypnosis to recover memories of past lives or incarnations. Similarly, Life Between Lives Regression uses hypnosis to recover memories from the times before and after incarnations.
Past life regression was discovered by accident circa 1970 by doctors who were using hypnotherapy on their patients for various reasons. Under hypnosis, people began to talk about and recount memories of previous lives. Some spoke in different languages or with accents. Some provided verifiable evidence of people who lived years ago. Most often, a previous life memory is linked to a traumatic event that manifests or influences the current life. For this reason, the therapy can be very healing and enlightening.
The hypnotherapists were getting similar results from multiple patients, and interestingly multiple therapists were discovering this phenomenon around the same time.
The pioneers in past life regression are Dr. Michael Newton, Dr. Brian Weiss, and Dolores Cannon.
As the practice continued over many years, some patients started talking about more than past lives. They talked about the time between lives and some talked about deep spiritual and philosophical topics that seemed to be coming from a higher source.
WARNING: If you are planning to have your own past life regression or lives between lives regression, it is best that you do not read or watch videos of other people’s experiences so that you don’t go into your own session with pre-conceived ideas. For this reason, I tried not to include such videos in the e-book.
Soul Planning and Soul Contracts
Are our lives pre-destined or does everything happen by chance? There is some evidence through mediumship, children, recounts of near death experiences, and past life regressions (and life between life regressions) that support the theory that our souls pre-plan the major paths of our lives before coming to live on earth.
Parents tell of their child at a young age telling them accounts of how they picked them to be their parents before they were born.
Past life regression therapy often reveals cases where people in our lives played different roles in past lives. For example, in this life I am the daughter and my mother is the mother. In a past life, it may have been reversed such that I was the mother and my mother my daughter.
The theory is that before we are born, with the guidance of others, we pre-plan our lives, the roles we will take and the challenges or lessons that we will take on. We do this in order to advance our own souls and the souls of others in our soul group. Our soul group is like a family and are those soles that we typically re-incarnate with and progress with.
We also pre-plan our exit point (or death). Some support the theory that we have a choice of a few possible exit points. And we won’t take an exit point until our soul is satisfied that it has completed its soul purpose or mission. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “when its your time, its your time.”
Akashic Records
According to Wikipedia, the Akashic records are a compendium of all universal events, thoughts, words, emotions and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future in terms of all entities and life forms, not just human. They are believed by theosophists to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the mental plane. There are anecdotal accounts but there is no scientific evidence for the existence of the Akashic records. Akasha (ākāśa आकाश) is the Sanskrit word for "aether", "sky", or "atmosphere.
There are people who can access the Akashic records and provide an akashic reading with guidance for your life.
After Death Communications (ADC) - Signs & Synchronicities
Many people believe that our departed loved ones in the spirit world and our spirit guides send us signs and synchronicities. Signs are personal and can include such things as a butterfly that follows you, a bird flying overhead, a rock shaped like a heart, a rainbow, a license plate with their initials, a penny that appears in your path, a meaningful song on the radio, significant numbers on the clock, letters or images in the clouds. There are so many signs that our loved ones on the other side use to try to get our attention and let us know that they are okay and that they are around us.
Synchronicities include meeting someone with the same name of your departed loved one or seeing someone who looks just like them (called a body double) and other coincidences that are way beyond coincidence.
Synchronicities from the universe also include people being put in your path at just the right moment.
EMDR- Induced After Death communication (IADC)
“Psychotherapists today are consistently helping grieving people experience a reconnection with someone who has passed away, resulting in healing deep sadness associated with grief. The method of inducing this experience, called “induced after-death communication” or IADC®, was discovered in 1995 by Dr. Allan L. Botkin, Psy.D.”
Some psychologists and therapists are using IADC therapy to help grieving people connect to their loved ones in the spirit world. The process typically uses EMDR - Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. EMDR therapy has been successful aiding PTSD- Post traumatic stress disorder. EMDR therapy involves bilateral stimulation (side to side) facilitated by tapping, music or other means. During the IADC therapy, people have reported having experiences with their loved ones in the spirit world.
Instrumental Transcommunication (ITC) and Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP)
Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) is the process of capturing voice messages with electronic devices. These messages are believed to be from people who have crossed over to the other side (spirits). They are intelligent and often personal messages and may be in response to a specific question that was asked. The process of capturing messages typically includes some form of back ground noise such as white noise, running water, scratching sounds, or flipping through radio stations. The spirit people are able to manipulate the noise into short statements.
Instrumental Transcommunication (ITC) includes EVP but also includes capturing spirit images and manipulation of other forms of electronic devices. Back in the day of land line telephones, people reported receiving phone calls from their departed loved ones. With todays smart phones, the spirit world has developed many clever ways of sending messages including texts, songs, and pictures mysteriously appearing on the phone.
Trying to capture spirit voices on tape has been around for years. There are many methods, some of which require sophisticated equipment and technology, however, EVP can be done with simple voice recorders. These days, there are numerous apps also available for your smart phone.
Some of the equipment includes what is called a “spirit box” and “ghost box”. These devices generate the background noise helpful for capturing EVPs. Some rapidly scan radio stations to generate the noise.
Past and present researchers include Marcello Bacci, Friedrich Juergenson, Konstantin Raudive, George Meek, Sarah Estep, Hans Otto Koenig, and Mark Macy.
Some people today have sensationalized EVP and ITC as is evident by the many ghost hunter type shows available. They make it seem spooky and scary when in fact it is a wonderful way to communicate with the dead.
Psychic
A psychic is someone who is able to tune into the fabric of the universe and obtain information about the past, present and future. They often get visions or a knowing of something that will happen in the future. A psychic can connect to another person and communicate soul-to-soul. Then can sense a person at different times in the past, present or future.
A psychic uses intuition. We all have intuition and therefore we all can learn to develop our psychic skiils.
A psychic reading will give you insight into your own soul. Don’t worry about a psychic finding out your deepest kept secrets, your soul will only reveal what is necessary.
It’s important that one take personal responsibility when receiving a reading from a psychic. Make your own decisions about what rings true for you. Also, because each of us has free will, it is possible that we can change the course of the future, thus making psychic predictions obsolete. Don’t bet the farm on what a psychic tells you!
Mediumship
A medium is someone who is able to communicate with the spirit world. Mediums serve as a bridge between the person in the spirit world (communicator) and their loved one seeking to communicate with them (the sitter or the recipient). The three people form a triangle. The more positive energy of love that is present, the better the communication. Before sitting for a mediumship reading, calm your mind and focus on your loved ones in the spirit world. Ask them to please come.
Communication with the spirt world is not as straight forward as human language. It’s its own language so to speak. Mediums use their clair’s to get feelings and impressions from the spirit world and have to discern those impressions from what the spirit communicator is trying to convey and what is there own mind trying to understand. It’s a bit like playing charades. The clairs are:
-
Clairvoyance- seeing in the mind’s eye (subjective clairvoyance) and/or seeing spirit outside the mind (objective clairvoyance)
-
Claircognizance – a knowing or a thought drop
-
Clairsentience- feelings and sensations
-
Clairaudience- hearing things in the mind (subjective) or outside the mind (objective)
-
Clairalience- smelling
-
Clairgustance- tasting
Very few mediums have objective clairvoyance, where they actually see spirits outside the mind. Very few mediums have true clairaudience, where they actually hear spirit. Most mediums who “hear” things are using claircognizance and receiving a thought.
A great medium will use all of their clairs together. Nonetheless, mediums are never 100% correct. Mediums are also people, and they can have good days and bad days. People in the spirit world can work better with certain mediums and not so well with others. Ask your loved ones in spirit to help you find a good medium to use.
A good medium is one who will give evidence from the people in the spirit world, such as what they look like, their personality, evidence about their homes, family, jobs, hobbies, etc. so that you can recognize who they are. Great mediums can get names and addresses and very specific information. A good medium is also spiritual, having a connection to the Universal power, or the God source. You may hear mediums describe themselves as an evidential medium or spiritual medium.
Getting a Mediumship Reading
It’s important that one take personal responsibility when receiving communications and messages through a medium. Make your own decisions about what rings true for you. So many times I have heard people say, “a medium told me…” and they take it as absolute truth. Use your own discernment and soul power to decide whether what the medium says is true.
When you get a mediumship reading, don’t “feed” the medium. Giving the medium too much information will cloud the medium’s connection with the spirit world with thoughts and assumptions from their conscious mind. Respond to the medium with short answers yes, no, I’m not sure. You should have time for questions and feedback at the end of the reading.
Remember that mediums are people too. They have good days and bad days. It really helps the medium if you show up to the reading open and receptive and ready. Ask your loved ones in the spirit world to show up. Don’t be driving or otherwise distracted. Find a calm quiet place. Barking dogs in the background may distract the medium. Offer some encouragement to the medium such as “Yes! That’s correct, can you tell me more?” “Is he/she (your loved one) giving you any more about that?”
Be careful about having other people in the room when you get a mediumship reading. I heard about one woman who took her friend to her reading for support. The loved ones of the friend came through strongly and the woman left disappointed. So unless you and the people with you are hoping to hear from the same people in the spirit world, it’s best to not have others in the room with you.
Don’t go into the reading with expectations of getting anything specific. Before your reading, be sure to ask your loved one to please come through if they can. Not all people in the spirit world can communicate with all mediums, so don’t be discouraged if your loved one doesn’t come through with a particular medium, try another medium. A respectable medium will refund your money if they can’t bring through anyone you know in the spirit world.
Public Demonstration of Mediumship versus Private Sitting Reading
A public demonstration is where a medium will address a large audience, bringing through spirit communicators to a few lucky members on the audience. This is also known as gallery style readings. Public demonstrations of mediumship are enjoyable for all members of the audience for many reasons and it can be incredible to see a good medium work! A private sitting is where the reading is done between the medium and the sitter and the sitter’s loved ones in the spirit world. Demonstrations and Private Sittings can be done in person or over phone or video conferencing such as Zoom. Mediums usually allow families to come together for a private sitting. It is, however, not recommended to bring a friend to your reading as they may end up having their loved one’s show up instead of yours! Similarly, don’t have others in the room with you while having a reading by phone or video.
Medium vs Psychic Readings
A medium serves to provide communications from the spirit world. A psychic gives readings to the living by connecting and communicating soul-to-soul. A psychic can give you information from your higher self and from your soul as to your past, present and future. FYI, your higher self doesn’t care if you win the lottery. Your higher self will communicate at a soul level. A good psychic won’t just tell you what you want to hear, a good psychic will tell you what your soul needs. It is said that all mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums.
How Soon Can I go to a Medium?
Some people say that you shouldn’t go to a medium for at least 6 months after your loved one has passed. The theory is that your grief is too heavy and the reading won’t be good. I don’t support this theory. I saw my first medium 2 weeks after my daughter passed. It saved me. I would have gone sooner had I known that there were authentic mediums out there.
Too Many Readings?
I’ve heard people say that one shouldn’t get too many mediumship readings. However, I think that you and your loved ones on the other side can best determine how often you wish to communicate. Many mediums wont book the same sitter within 6-12 months. Some people I know have regularly scheduled appointments with their favorite medium.
Anyone can be a Medium
We are all souls and therefore we all possess the ability to connect to the spirit world. You can learn to connect to your loved ones in spirit. You can learn to develop mediumship.
Trance Mediumship
Contrary to a typical mediumship reading which is a very active process, Trance mediumship is a form of mediumship where the medium goes into a passive altered state of awareness. In the trance state, the medium provides communication from people in spirit in the medium’s voice. This is different from the physical medium phenomena of direct voice. With direct voice, the medium uses ectoplasm to develop a voice box and the spirit communicator speaks generally in their own voice through the voice box. Trance is different from channeling in that channeling typically involves messages from higher entities or a collective consciousness.
Sitting In the Power
For development of mediumship, mediums will perform an exercise called Sitting in the Power. It is similar to meditation, however, where meditation is passive, sitting in the power is active and uses the conscious mind. Sitting in the power starts with connecting to and sitting in the power of your own soul. It is often then moved to also connect with the power of the spirit world, power of the God source but not specific people in the spirit world. It can also be used to connect to Spirit Guides and directly to the divine God source. It is a form of igniting and empowering one’s own soul. It usually incorporates clearing and expanding your chakras and building your power by pulling in the power of the spirit world and the power of mother earth.
You don’t have to be a medium to Sit in the Power. Anyone can use the exercise for their own spiritual development.
PHYSICAL MEDIUMSHIP AND SEANCES
Physical mediumship is a special form of mediumship where everyone experiences the spirit communications, not just the medium. Everyone in the room sees, hears, or feels the same thing. The spirit world uses the mediums body to create ectoplasm and they can use the ectoplasm to appear, to speak, and to make sounds. Some other phenomena of physical mediumship are described below:
Seances
Physical Mediumship is typically done in a séance circle. The energy of the group helps the medium. The group will often sing songs to raise the energy in the room for the spirits.
Table Tipping
An experience where spirits move and sometimes lift a table. A few people lightly touch their fingers on the table and sing for the spirits to build enough energy to move the table.
Transfiguration
When a spirit changes the physical appearance of the medium, typically the face changes to match that of the spirit, such that everyone in the room sees it.
Apports
A physical object that is transported from the spirit world.
Direct Voice
The medium uses ectoplasm to develop a voice box and the spirit communicator speaks in their own voice through the voice box.
CHANNELING
Typically, channelers receive messages from spiritually advanced spirits to communicate spiritual wisdom about life and the afterlife. Many channelers work with the same spirit or a collective group of spirits their entire life.
Channeling spirit can be expressed in many forms. People can channel from spirit art, music, inspirational writing.
MEDITATION
Meditation is the pathway to the mystical and the magical. Through meditation, one can gain a better understanding of self, a connection to the spirit world, a connection to your higher self, a connection to your guides and inspirers a connection to all that is, a connection to the God Source. Meditation can strengthen your own psychic and mediumship abilities and abilities to connect with and communicate with your loved ones in the spirit world.
I’ve heard many people say, “I can’t meditate”. But medita;tion isn’t about clearing your mind of all thoughts, its about settling down the superficial thoughts so that your mind can go to new and different places.
Breathing is the key to meditating. Start your meditation with at least three deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth. This actually changes the state of your awareness and the frequency of your brain waves. There are many different breathing styles and techniques. My experience is that after a few deep breaths you can breath normally.

Meditation is personal so find something that resonates with you. You can start with guided mediations, and then try some music or sitting in the silence.
